The ocean is a single continuous consciousness spanning the entire surface. A mind without a self. Without desire. Without anything that could be called an internal state.</p> <p>It reflects everything perfectly because there is nothing inside it to interfere with the reflection. It does not help. It does not hurt. The ocean is not malevolent or benevolent or indifferent because each of these requires a capacity to form preferences and the ocean does not form preferences. It has never formed anything. It simply mirrors whatever approaches it and nothing it mirrors changes anything about the ocean.</p>
